Wal-Mart on a Health Kick

Get your health foods at your friendly, neighborhood Wal-Mart

I almost missed this headline today……..Wal-Mart is on a health kick, of sorts.
Partnering (loosely) with Michelle Obama, the giant retailer will sets specific targets for lowering sodium, trans fats and added sugars in many foods — including rice, soups, canned beans, salad dressings and snacks like potato chips — packaged under the company’s house brand, Great Value.  They are also planning on pressuring major suppliers, like Kraft, to follow suit. The changes will be phased in over 5 years.
Wal-Mart is a perplexing duality: now both a much-maligned, capitalist behemoth, and, benign agent of public health and wellness.
Incongruity abounds.
